Breaking Barriers: The Power of Children’s Books
A Talk With Picture-Book Authors Muranaka Rie and Ishikawa Eriko

#Author Event#JF Toronto

Join author Muranaka Rie and illustrator Ishikawa Eriko as they introduce the concept of barrier-free picture books and discuss their award-winning title Kokun (Nodding). Chosen for the 2021 IBBY Selection of Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities, this is a story of a girl asserting her independence while also learning to accept help when it’s needed. The authors will address how they have used picture books to spark discussions in Japan on the visible and invisible barriers encountered at large and in therapeutic settings.
