FY2023 Report: Central and Eastern European Editors’ Visit
#CentralAndEasternEuropeanEditors2024#NewsIn February 2024 the Japan Foundation invited eleven editors from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Slovakia for a ten-day visit to Japan. The aim of this visit was to give participants the opportunity to gather information about books in Japan and to meet with other Japan-based professionals, with the ultimate hope that a more diverse range of contemporary literature and other titles from Japan will be translated and published in central and eastern Europe in the years ahead.
In our #CentralAndEasternEuropeanEditors2024 series we’ll share the participants’ impressions of Japan and Japanese literature, their insights on the present state of Japanese literary translation in their home countries, and their views on what has changed for them since their visit to Japan. We invite you to read their reports and will be updating the series as new content comes in.
