Now in translation in countries around the world, Yuzuki Asako’s Butter was named Waterstones Book of the Year in 2024. That October, Yuzuki traveled to the UK on a book tour hosted by the Japan Foundation, London. Through her appearances at the Cheltenham and Manchester Literature Festivals and in Sheffield, London, Norwich, and Oxford, she met many readers and filled the venues with uproarious laughter. She wrote for us about her experiences in this essay, translated from the Japanese by none other than Butter translator Polly Barton.
