Exhibition Support: Soseki in Translation at the Natsume Soseki Memorial Museum
#NewsSoseki in Translation, a temporary exhibition at the Natsume Soseki Memorial Museum in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, opened on Thursday, April 24 and will continue through July 13. In addition to translated works of the author lent by the Japan Foundation Library, the exhibition features important materials related to their translation, including letters from translators to the Soseki estate as well as promotional proofs. Many of Soseki’s works in translation around the world were produced with assistance from our Support Program for Translation and Publication.

The Japan Foundation’s Role in the Translation of Soseki’s Works
From the 1997 English edition of Sanshiro by Jay Rubin to the Danish version of Ten Nights of Dreams by Steffen Kloster Poulsen released in February 2025, a total of 45 Soseki translations have been produced through our Support Program for Translation and Publication. Over the long course of this program, titles by Soseki in fact number the highest! (Click here for the full list of books supported by the program.) We are, of course, delighted to be connected with this invaluable literary legacy and encourage all those who are able to visit the exhibition in person.
