FY2024 Report: Japanese–Turkish Literary Translators’ Visit
“Translation, Literature, and Me”

#News#TurkishTranslatorVisit2024

In November 2024, the Japan Foundation hosted a thirteen-day visit to Japan for seven early- to mid-career translators of Japanese literature into Turkish. Their visit, part of a broader project to commemorate the centennial anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Turkey, was organized to encourage quality translations of Japanese books for Turkish readers and to inspire the next generation of Turkish translators in particular to continue sharing Japanese literature abroad.

Post-program interviews with participants and a video offering an overview of their stay are published at the link below.

In the #TurkishTranslatorVisit2024 series, we share some of the presentations made by participants on the theme “Translation, Literature, and Me.” In this panel discussion moderated by Miyashita Ryo (associate professor, Osaka University), participants discussed their initial encounters with Japanese literature, works they would like to translate in the future, and their perspectives on the challenges of literary translation.

The event was a valuable opportunity for them to share their experiences and views with one another. We will continue to update the series as additional reports are received, and invite you to read these updates as new content is posted.
