Welcoming Nine Southeast-Asian Translators and Editors (2025.11.17–26)

#SoutheastAsianTranslators&Editors2025

The Japan Foundation (JF) is delighted to welcome five translators and four editors from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Myanmar to Japan for a variety of professional exchanges in November 2025.

During their stay, the group will attend specialist lectures on the literary arts, meet with leading Japanese authors, and visit a number of publishers and bookstores. These opportunities have been organized so they may deepen their knowledge of contemporary Japanese literature and currents in the fields of literary translation and publishing in Japan and catch up on the latest book-industry trends as well. Further participation by the translators in workshops and roundtable discussions will enable them to share information from their respective countries about initiatives for nurturing the next generation of translators and to exchange ideas about future literary exchanges between Southeast Asia and Japan.

Through invitation programs such as this JF aims to deepen specialized knowledge related to the translation and publication of Japanese literary works; strengthen professional networks among Japanese publishing professionals and translators and editors from abroad; and lay the groundwork for future exchanges and collaborative projects centered on the enjoyment of Japanese books and literature in neighboring countries.
